The Mad Hatterpillar

Today's very strange insect, via Bug Girl. This caterpillar is Uraba lugens, larva of a Gum Leaf Skeletoniser moth. It decorates its head with all of its own shed head skin. Every time it sheds its skin, the skin from its head is added to the hat. Nobody knows why.
