The Shipwreck Gown

Some remarkable archaeological news from Holland, where divers extracted a bundle of cloth from a seventeenth-century shipwreck in the Wadden Sea. The bundle turned out to include this astonishingly well preserved silk gown, made for one of the wealthiest women of the age.

Close-up view of the fabric.

And there was more, including this velvet purse. More pictures here.
