That's kudzu, for ya. It literally just grows over everything, climbing rapidly, smothering out all other life.
You can rip it out, but you have to be absurdly thorough - it reproduces asexually, via stolons and rhyzomes, so leaving even just a single stalk or piece of root can be enough to propagate more.
