Rudolf Stingel, born 1956 in Merano, Italy, is a New York-based artist most of whose work has been in the minimalist vein. I was astonished by the works above and below, which are oil paintings (yes, paintings) based on black and white photographs of the artist taken by his friend Sam Samore. Stingel did several of these "After Sam" pieces in 2005 to 2006. All of Stingel's work is formally untitled, so the appellations you see on some pieces are nicknames given by galleries.
