The Political Grind

I didn't watch the debate. I hardly ever do, because for someone like me who has been following the race since -- well, pretty much since the last election -- there is nothing new to learn. Debates are often said to be important for the challenger, so he can show that he is "Presidential." But even a leftist like me saw years ago that Mitt Romney was a perfectly plausible President, able to assume the role and handle his share of managing the government. Eventually even the Tea Party-est primary voters came to understand that of the Republican candidates, Romney was far and away the most Presidential. Anyone who followed the primary campaign also already knew that Romney is a good debater.

For people like me, whose minds were made up when the list of candidates were announced, and who  figured out back in June what issues were going to be prominent and what positions each side would take, October is a long, wearying month. We know what we want, and we just sit around and wait for the last 5 percent of the country to make up its mind.
