Marlborough Mound

Marlborough Mound in Wiltshire, England, was the motte on which the keep of a Norman castle was built in the early 1100s. Because it is in the same general area as Silbury Hill, Avebury Hill, and other major prehistoric monuments, people have long wondered if it perhaps had an earlier history as well. I could swear that I have seen maps of Bronze Age alignments, drawn by neo-druids, that include this mound. Now cores have been made of the mound and radiocarbon dates obtained from charcoal found in its center. They come out at 2400 BC. What do you know, the neo-druids were right. It really is a prehistoric monument, and it is legitimate to wonder how it relates to the other monuments in the area.
