June in the Garden

Two weeks of tropical heat put an early end to spring in the garden, and the roses are all gone. But the things that love heat are thriving, like this spectacular daylily.

The delphinium in the herb garden has put on a good show despite the heat, which these plants usually don't like.

I don't remember buying or planting these shocking pink lilies, but they bloomed at the height of the heat wave when everything else was drooping.

The annuals are already starting to bloom, starting with these larkspurs. These are self-seeded, and they got a headstart on the things I planted myself. This was good, since they usually get swallowed by the zinnias I plant too many of and are nearly invisible.

As you can see in this overall view, there isn't much color right now, but with the annuals growing so quickly and the summer perennials likely to open early, there will soon be a lot more to see.
