Republicans Turning Against Constant War

One bit of semi-news from last night's Republican debate is that most of the candidates are not so gung-ho on foreign intervention as they generally have been since 9/11. It's nice to see conservatives acting conservatively for a change. Here's Mitt Romney on Afghanistan:
I also think we've learned that our troops shouldn't go off and try and fight a war of independence for another nation. Only the Afghanis can win Afghanistan's independence from the Taliban.
And Newt Gingrich:
I think that we should say to the generals we would like to figure out to get out as rapid as possible with the safety of the troops involved. And we had better find new and very different strategies because this is too big a problem for us to deal with the American ground forces in direct combat.
Of the contenders, only Pawlenty seems to think toughness is a substitute for good policy. Could the insanity that took over our country back in 2001 finally be easing?
