I took Ben and Clara down to the river today.
It was very warm and sunny, and taking their cue from the large, loud, immigrant family in the background, they plunged right into the water.
At first they waded, tentative, worried about slipping on the rocks.
But soon they were swimming around in a quiet pool out of the main current.
Afterwards they sat on the rocks to dry, before we hiked back up the hill toward home.
This was as far in as our water-shy dog would go. Which is fine by me, since the other side of the river is much more crowded than our side, and as it is I know she is unlikely to cross.
