Death and Boredom

It was shown a long time ago that people started living longer in nursing homes after they got television.

And now comes a new study showing that people on Facebook live longer. As much as I despise Facebook, I'm not surprised.

Several different lines of evidence suggest that when people die of "old age," part of the cause is loneliness and boredom.

Obviously there are confounding factors here; one reason people get bored and lonely is that they are too sick to hang out with their friends. But even accounting for those factors as best we can, the deadly effect of boredom and loneliness remains.
