Tapestry of Shells and Seeds
This Mayan weaving, made with 8,000 beads, was part of the funeral furniture of a king of Calakmul around AD 400; it has now been restored and put on display in Mexico City. The image shown here depicts the three levels of the cosmos, sky, earth, and underworld, united by the central axis of the world tree.
