Japanese Monsters: the Bakemono Zukushi Scroll

The Bakemono Zukushi scroll dates from the Edo period (1603-1867), likely after 1700, but my sources don't get any more specific than that. This is one of a whole class of monster scrolls; wikipedia has another one. Above is an Oyajirome

Daichiuchi

Kami-kiri, the "hair cutter," which likes to sneak up on its victims and cut off their hair.

Yuki-onna, the Snow Woman, who appears in snowstorms as a beautiful woman, luring young men off into the freezing dark.

Buraribi, a white, bird-like creature that always appears wreathed in flame.
