The Towers of Ras Al-Khaima
Interesting article on an archaeological survey in Ras Al-Khaima, one of the smaller of the United Arab Emirates, aimed at recording the location of these towers. These towers date to any time from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century and were maintained until around World War II. Each coastal settlement had one, for defense against raids by desert Bedouin or the troops of other Emirates.
