Right. We always thought they worked by acting on the nervous system. Which plants don't have.
@JohnBut they do have bio-electrics, which I've always felt probably have way more going on with them than we give them credit for. So much of biology revolves around things like pH and sanility, and cells in many ways act like batteries and electronics.Anyway, consider the possible philosophical and ethical implications. If we can show that plants are conscious, which I suspect they are, that essentially tells us they are sentient, if not exactly sapient.They might very well feel pain, albeit not in quite the same manner we associate with ourselves. It might be that beliefs like vegetarianism and veganism are misguided because even plants suffer, and thus no food can exist which is truly ethical - short of as yet still theoretical synthetic organic substances like vat-grown clonal meats, et cetera.
