RIP John Lewis

When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something. Our children and their children will ask us, ‘What did you do? What did you say?’ For some, this vote may be hard. But we have a mission and a mandate to be on the right side of history.

No mission, no mandate, no we haven't. And there is no right side of History.

So honorable and respectful is a human being that minds and acts, as he who doesn't. Many who don't are even philosophers of an alternative life. Many are poets. Many are misanthropes - which is quite an admirable line of thinking.

If you look back at history and say there is no "right side" - that all viewpoints throughout time are equally valid / worthy / desirable - then you either are lying through your teeth for nefarious reasons, are woefully ignorant and simply don't comprehend what you are looking at, or are literally a psychopath and a danger to humanity.

lying through my teeth for nefarious reasons, woefully ignorant, literally a psychopath and a danger to humanity. All that.

But hey, did I insult you? Or are you one of those mad persecutors of free opinion that abound more and more in your country? A Trump in reverse, a Chomsky-troll ?

I could make a list of "dangerous to humanity" genius men of all times. You are not worth.

So you feel persecuted when someone criticizes your behavior?

You talk about free opinion, and then turn around and complain about a free opinion you felt insulted by. Such hypocrisy.

I stand by my statement. I honestly believe that someone who claims there is no right side to history is either lying, confused, or mentally ill.

Some truths are simply self evident. Water is wet, and if you say otherwise, you are either lying, confused, or mentally ill. The same is true of history not being uniform and equal - some things were simply wrong, and the march of time has proved them to be so.

Every debunked theory, from flat earth, to phlogiston, to the divine right of kings, and countless others, has repeatedly and incontestably shown that there is a right side and a wrong side to history, and many people who thought they were right were proven by the passage of time to be completely wrong. It simply can't be contested, except by a liar, a fool, or a psychopath.

Verloren, you are absolutely right about the scientific evidences and our senses evidences like water is wet; that is even ridiculous as an argument. You are deliberately mixing those evidences with historical or political truths, which is quite a different matter, where opinion has its place and different sides may be taken, and time will NOT be the judge.

Flat earth is not a 'history' matter; racism is. Democracy is. Mussolini, Stalinism, Maduro, Churchill, Colombus or Bolsonaro are. And what is the 'right' side of History ? No one can establish that in a universal, god-like Mandament. No one can define "a mission and a mandate to be on the right side of History" then - that would indeed be the end of free thinking.

On the other hand, if you personalize this in 'fascist Mario' as you insinuate, I can tell you the world should be much more frightened of your way, and people be defended of your lines of thought. You want to shoot Covid infected people, I won't forget that. You want to forbid those who don't agree wth you - ah, and I didn't 'turn around and complain' as you say, on the contrary, here I am. Not complaining, protesting.

P.S. I do like John's Bensozia. His posts are most of the times interesting, revelatory and correct. Only your comments screw up a bit.
