At Vedbaek in Denmark, an archaeological site dating to around 4000 BC, a newborn baby was found buried next to a woman. The baby was cradled in a swan's wing.
At Oronsay in the Scottish Hebrides, another Mesolithic site, some burials are accompanied by seal flippers.
