House in Wapiti Valley, Wyoming, built by engineer Francis Smith. He threw his life into building this crazy place, with no running water and power only from a generator. His wife eventually moved out, taking the children with her to town. Smith held on, adding to and tinkering with house until 1992, when he died in a fall from a balcony. He was 48. Since then the house has slowly decayed. The NY Times has an article and slide show.
