No war can be won without young men dying.
--Pvt. David Webster, 101st Airborne Division, in a letter home just before D-Day
From Stephen Ambrose, Band of Brothers.
Webster was one of those young men with ideas about war. He wanted to do it the hard way, to have the full combat experience. A Harvard graduate, he enlisted as a private and refused all attempts to send him to officer's candidate school, sticking it out to an end as a private in an airborne infantry company.
