Sherds

If you go to the web site of the Getty Museum and search their collection for ceramic objects made between 600 and 300 BC, with images, you get 4,750 hits. Most of which are sherds like these. Sometimes I find these little glimpses more evocative than complete scenes.

The Getty glosses this as a male figure costumed as a satyr and armed as a peltast (light, missile-throwing infantry). What story would that be part of?
