I was "monitoring" again today. This time the site was on a bluff high over the Potomac, which was in a muddy rage after a whole week of rain. I watched several whole trees float by, on their way to wherever whole, floating trees end up. There were herons and crows, and a whole tribe of cormorants found it necessary to fly back and forth across the river all day.
I had time to take one longish walk, down a trail into the valley of a nearby stream.
But the remarkable thing about the day was that I found myself in the midst of a vast throng of Dutchman's breeches, one of my favorite wildflowers. I've never seen so many in one place before. Delightful.
