Theodore Lukits

Theodore Lukits (1897-1992) was a Romanian-American painter who lived most of his life in Southern California.

He made most of his money doing glitzy portraits of socialites and Hollywood stars, like this one of Eleanor Merriam.

But these days people much prefer two other parts of his work. He got very interested in Hispanic America and mid many scenes like this one and portraits of dancers and musicians in Latin costume.

And he did many landscapes, some of them with a Japanese feel, which I find delightful.
