William Page Atkinson Wells (1872-1923) was a British painter known for his slightly bleak images of the north country. The Girl in the Meadow.
He was not a painter of the sea, but often of the shore: The "Two Sisters" and the "Francis Beddoe."
The word that comes to my mind when I look at these is "quiet." Maguerites in the Meadow.
