William Page Atkinson Wells

William Page Atkinson Wells (1872-1923) was a British painter known for his slightly bleak images of the north country. The Girl in the Meadow.

He was not a painter of the sea, but often of the shore: The "Two Sisters" and the "Francis Beddoe."

The word that comes to my mind when I look at these is "quiet." Maguerites in the Meadow.

There is no brashness here, no grab for attention, just a simple beauty. A Street in Topsham, Devon.

A Lancashire Village, 1908.

Netting the Stacks.

Haymaking. Very pleasant, especially when things are crazy and you need to be soothed.
