No president — Republican or Democrat — would have allowed the economic collapse of the upper Midwest in the midst of a national economic panic. A conservatism that prefers ideology to reality is not particularly conservative.I believe this is the first time I have ever agreed with a column by former Bush administration hack Michael Gerson. When Gerson and I agree that the Republican candidates are acting strangely, something is surely wrong with the Republican party.

Conservatism and the Auto Bailout
Romney and Santorum are campaigning around Michigan, claiming to be both opposed to the bailout of GM and Chrysler and for the working man. Michael Gerson notes that arguing about the auto bailout is pointless:
