Amazing pictures from a recent excavation in Luoyang, China of four chariots and teams of horses buried in a tomb of the Western Zhou dynasty, 770 to 256 BC.
Some accounts I have seen say that the person entombed here was of "middle status," which is kind of funny. I suppose they mean he was a lesser nobleman and therefore at about the 99.5th percentile for wealth in his society, instead of the 99.99th.
