Schools Backing Off Zero Tolerance

About time:
Faced with mounting evidence that get-tough policies in schools are leading to arrest records, low academic achievement and high dropout rates that especially affect minority students, cities and school districts around the country are rethinking their approach to minor offenses.
Maybe this will soon bring an end to kids being expelled for carrying ibuprofen in their pockets.

Not that I am opposed to expelling students in principle, and there are plenty of schools that used to be zoos because they never threw out anyone. But a rule like "zero tolerance" is a poor substitute for judgment.
