Imran Qureshi's Bleeding Roof

In the roof garden at the Met, a new installation by Pakistani artist Imran Qureshi, titled And How Many Rains Must Fall before the Stains Are Washed Clean?

Qureshi first entered the international art scene as a painter of scenes that invoke Mughal miniatures; this is Moderate Enlightenment, 2007.

Then he began to worry about the violence in Pakistan; this work, Blessings upon the Land of my Love, 2011, was his response to a particularly deadly bombing in Lahore. So you can see how he ended up covering the Met's roof with red.
