Department of Incurious Pessimism, Teen Pregnancy Edition

People love to imagine that things are getting worse. I spent much of the past decade trying to get the word out that crime rates in America were falling, despite public perceptions that they were getting worse. People seem finally to have come around on this one.

Now comes another great study showing that even though teen pregnancy is down 42% since 1990, half of Americans think the problem is getting worse and only 18% know it is easing. I am not sure why people love  thinking the worst about our society, but the effect seems to be very strong.
