Today's Cathedral: Mainz
Mainz Cathedral, on the Rhine River in Germany has been repaired, rebuilt and enlarged so many times since its construction around 990 CE that it has become a museum of European architectural styles. The original, Romanesque east facade survives, but it also boasts Gothic sections and that Baroque tower.
The cathedral boasts a very large amount of sculpture, in the same crazy assotment of styles.
And a great many tombs.
And a great many tombs.
