Same Sex Marriage is Legal in DC

The law was signed by the mayor in December, but Congress gets a chance to reject or modify any new DC law. They declined to do so, and the Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge, so the law came into effect yesterday.

Meanwhile, Maryland's attorney general issued an opinion that the state should recognize same-sex marriages performed elsewhere. This will likely prompt a legislative fight, but in Maryland sessions of the assembly are short and it is relatively easy for a determined group to prevent action on a bill for a long time, so I would be surprised if the legislature even gets around to voting on the matter.
