If the US stayed completely shut down for two months, the typical US worker would work about the same number of hours this year as a pre-pandemic German worker.

But if the typical US worker didn't work themselves to the bone, the top 1% wouldn't be quite so absurdly rich, and our for-profit medical system would have fewer overworked "customers" to wring money out of! That's just un-American!
After all, the grinding toil of the have-nots is what makes this country great! Only unpatriotic morons who hate freedom agitate for the implementation of wasteful measures like "paid sick leave", "paid maternity / paternity leave", "a livable minimum wage", "socialized healthcare", "affordable daycare", et cetera!
Do your part and chase "The American Dream"! You too can be a billionaire celebrity with an absurd degree of influence over society, if only you aren't lazy! Just pull yourself up by your bootstraps and prove to your corporate overlords that you're a valuable asset, and your hard work on their behalf will surely be rewarded!
