Ogata Kōrin (1658 – 1716) was a Japanese painter of the Rinpa school. His most famous work is this iris screen, considered a National Treasure of Japan.

Rinpa arose in the 17th century. It was explicitly traditional in its aims, and the images used were all considered archetypically Japanese; many were associated with famous poems.
Bold colors and patterns were often used.
