Behold the strangest pet in all of Bronze Age art. At least I think this is Bronze Age art; I have been having terrible trouble tracking this image to its source. I found on it first on this page about the citadel of Metsamor in Armenia, a site occupied from the Neolithic into the Middle Ages. I thought perhaps that it was some object in the Metsamor museum, but no luck finding it on the museum's site or any tourist's account of visiting the museum. I found it again on this page about the civilization of Urartu, a Bronze Age kingdom in roughly that same part of the world.
So I fear it must remain a mystery. But what a wonderfully weird image it is.
