Samnite Tomb in Pompeii

French archaeologists digging in Pompeii stumbled on a rare remnant of the pre-Roman town, a tomb dating to the fourth century BCE. At that time Pompeii was part of the Samnite realm. The tomb held one adult woman, and some nice grave goods. One interesting detail is that the town's Roman inhabitants seem to have known of the site and avoided disturbing it, so perhaps this woman was a minor hero of some kind.
