The women of Brittany developed over the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries elaborate head dresses of various kinds, most of them featuring their famous lace. Many were unique to particular towns, and others represented being single or married or some other status. In the twentieth century these died out, swept away by French fashion and he worldwide decline in formality.
But now, according to photographer Charles Fréger, some women are trying to bring them back.
