First, the Good News

As far as the future of the republic is concerned, the most important elections yesterday were the Senate races in Delaware and Nevada. In both places voters chose very boring but sane Democrats over Republicans who are so loony they push the border of outright insanity (Christine O'Donnell and Sharron Angle). This result suggests that even with unemployment over 9%, the outsider party still has to nominate sane candidates in order to win. I view this result with great satisfaction.

Indeed, we aren't Weimar Germany yet. And if Murkowski wins in Alaska, which it looks like she might at this point, that will be a significant rebuke to Palin, and will also be a good thing.
