I'm already back in the mundane world, Mt. Desert far behind. On our last day my son and I joined my brother and sister in hiking up Sargeant Mountain, one of our favorite hikes, 8.5 miles, more than 1,000 feet up and then back down. Took us four hours. Every year there is something wonderful in the woods here; this year it was the lichen, vibrant from a rainy summer.
Sargeant Pond, a wonderful little oasis with many frogs, turtles, and birds.
Canada lily and bluberries above the tree line.
My son and I at the summit.
View to the north.
One of the great things about this hike is that heading back down the south trail you see this view toward the ocean for half a mile.
Farewell, rocky island where I have had so many happy days. I hope I see you again soon.
