A Food Forest in Seattle
Seattle has announced plans to turn one of its parks into a "food forest." Seven acres of Beacon Hill park will be planted with apple, pear, and plum trees, walnuts, berry bushes, and other edible plants. A food forest is an organic, natural version of an orchard, planted with a mix of plants that are supposed to create a viable ecosystem needing no fertilizers or insecticides. Which sounds really cool, but what happens when a vanload of immigrants shows up and starts to vacuum up all the salmonberries?
