The Dom Pedro Aquamarine

The Dom Pedro aquamarine, the largest one ever found, as been donated to the Smithsonian and is going on display near the Hope Diamond.

The stone weighs 10,363 carats, nearly five pounds, and is 14 inches (35 cm) tall. It was shaped by German gem carver Bernd Munsteiner. It was found in Brazil in the 1980s, and is named for Brazil's first emperor.
