According to the Washington Post, there are now 1 million security guards in America, twice as many as before 9-11. Most of them are guarding things that no terrorist would ever dream of attacking, like local government buildings, golf courses, and the offices of obscure companies. We all pay a high price for this baloney, in the form of higher prices for everything and much annoyance.
I suppose this does answer the question of what kind of work can high school graduates get with minimal training, but can't we come up with something that adds, at least minimally, to the common good? Like maybe more police?
