Bees!
Look closely at those creatures crawling over this blooming sedum, and you will see that most of them are honeybees. It has been five years since I saw so many in my yard at once. The first year we lived here there were so many they made my children nervous. Then they disappeared, victims of "colony collapse disorder" or some such affliction. I saw none at all for years, just bumblebees. Then last year I saw an occasional honeybee, and the same this spring. Now, finally, I see them in numbers again. I wonder if this means wild bees are evolving some resistance to this plague, or if one of my neighbors has installed a hive and sprayed liberally with miticide.
