Moon Race?

Can I just say how ridiculous I find headlines like this, from CNN:

Is NASA losing the moon race?

Because, you know, NASA already won the Moon race, in 1969. Fifty-six years ago! Who cares whether China sends people to the Moon before we go back? We've already been there.

And why are we going back at all? NASA says it's an essential part of their plan to get to Mars, but I don't buy it.

What an utterly stupid thing to worry about.

I disagree. NASA is one of the few prestige entities that keep the world looking at and respecting the US. NASA presently technology has nothing to do with 1969, and is projecting years ahead to the end of the century, Mars of course but also new Space Stations. The Moon is a question of prestige - we went and go back any time we wish - and helps correcting and improving ships and technology. As russia is completely failed off, China could try to compete but has so so many years in retard. The day Starship lands on the Moon will be feasted (or hated) everywhere, definitely shut up the negationists, and a new mark in propulsion, guide, cosmic suits, etc. . In a world where almost perspectives are dark and apocalyptic, that should also be something to stimulate positive feelings of hope.
