Today's Random Fact about American Society

The best-selling prescription medication in the country is the anti-psychotic Abilify (aripiprazole), which is prescribed for manic-depressive conditions, severe depression, schizophrenia, and "irritability caused by Austism spectrum disorders."

The pharmacutical companies have been quietly carving out an unshakeable power base for decades, and they've become something of an leviathon. They've proven time and again that their only interest is profit, and to achieve that goal more efficiently they glibly toy with the health and wellbeing of millions.

Now they're entrenched, and there's not much we can do to fix things, and few parties with the power to do so also possessing the willingness. After all, the health industry (and how messed up is it that health is an industry?) makes sure to grease the right palms and pay the right pipers, so they're pretty well insulated from political influences against their oligarchical profiteering.
