The Dmanisi People

Via Science News, above is a nice image of the skulls from the Dmanisi cave, the subject of a recent paper arguing that the variation in this one small  population is as great as the variation across all of Africa, and therefore that all the humans of that era (1.8 to 2.0 million years ago) belonged to a single species. They do look very diverse, presented this way.
