Treasures from the National Museum of Wales


The Burton Hoard, c. 1300 to 1150 BC, found by a metal detectorist in 2004.

Bronze shield boss, La Tene stule, 100 BC to 50 AD. In case you wondered, those shapes are called triquetras.

Bronze harness fitting, La Tene Style, c. 1 to 70 AD.

Bronze plaque, 200 BC to 50 AD.

Sword pommel cap, silver, cl 600 to 650 AD. Found near Gresham in northeast Wales.


Viking sword guard, bronze, c. 1100 AD. This was found underwater near the Smalls lighthouse.

Carved stone head from Valle Crucis Abbey, c. 1250-1300 AD
