We've come so far, and achieved so much. We've beaten back evils like disease and famine, reducing them to mere shadows of their former horror. Even conquest and war, which used to be the norm, have become relative rarities.
These were monumental dangers, unstoppable forces of nature, that had us at their mercy for millenia - and incredibly we've managed to largely overcome them.
And yet, we can't figure out how to deal with far pettier evils of our own creation. It's entirely within our power to eradicate things like hatred and fear. All we have to do is choose to do so.
If we can figure out how to do impossible things like feed billions reliably, eradicate the most horrific of diseases, and make war itself largely obsolete, then why in the world can't we figure out how to face the world with bravery and compassion instead of fear and hatred? We can bend nature itself to suit our whims, but our whims themselves are stubbornly inflexible?
We're masters of nearly everything - except ourselves. How very, very strange...
It's strange...
