Some scientists with a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) have used single chlorine atoms as data bits to
store retrievable information. They chose to write out some text from Richard Feynman's famous 1960 lecture, "There's Plenty of Room at the Bottom." This is a stunt, since moving atoms around with the STM is very time-consuming, but it's kind of a cool stunt.
