Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) doesn't deny that he's rich. But what stuck in his craw Monday night was his Democratic opponent's insinuation that he had earned his wealth using his position as senator. An outraged McConnell clarified for debate viewers how he became a millionaire: He and his wife inherited the money. . . . .
The guy may be out of touch due to his wealth and the fact that he inherited, but he was accused of enriching himself at public expense, which is demonstrably untrue.
ReplyDeleteThe amount of spin and editiorialization on display in this article is kind of staggering, as is the fact that it appears to be working in both directions. The headline appears to be mocking McConnell, but then the body of the post seems to waffle between supporting his position and damning it. I don't read the Huffington Post, but if this is a sample of their standard fare, I certainly wouldn't want to start.
Senator McConnell is certainly poorly qualified to be weighing in on the issue of minimum wage given his personal fortunes, but Secretary Grimes doesn't have much moral high ground in acting like an ass and falsely accusing the Senator of exploiting the public for personal gains.
To be honest, they both kind of frustrate and disgust me, just in different ways. Ugh. Politicians.
