In Washington right now a little experiment is going on, testing whether the will of the voters has any impact on American foreign policy. Polls show that a majority of Americans oppose any military action in Syria, and the anti-war majority are not keeping their mouths shut. The energized activists on both the right and the left oppose intervention, and most Congressmen report mail running 10-1 against a "strike." Will it make any difference? Or will the foreign policy establishment and its allies on the big editorial boards get their way? Stay tuned.
Speaking of democracy, a lot of Congressmen seem to be waffling on this. So if you have never emailed your representative, now might be a good time to try it out.
