"Stormchaser" Tim Samaras died this week doing what he loved, chasing tornadoes. His son Paul was killed with him.
National Geographic has a great collection of his videos, which give you a sense of how close he tried to get to dangerous tornadoes. Chasing tornadoes became an obsession for Samaras and others that went far beyond the science they certainly did bring back. Tornadoes were their drug, their high. As with so many others addicted to danger, Samaras eventually paid the price.
